Five Things You Should NOT Overlook On Your Wedding Day

We know that planning a wedding can be stressful. You have to figure out the cake, the photos, the flowers, what your favorite dress will be, and everything in between.

We also know how tempting it can be to skim things off, whether it’s due to budget or you didn’t have time to set it up. Or, you have a cousin that “knows how to plan a wedding” or an uncle that “seems” savvy on the iPhone.

We are encouraging you not to overlook the following five things we will talk about because all of these things are the essential parts of your wedding. You only get married once, and we wouldn’t want to see you skim out for either saving a quick buck or because of convenience.

I have been in the wedding industry for the past four (almost five) years, and these are the things that we feel are important to your day, to make sure the day goes smooth, the party is bumping, and that you’ll have images

and footage that you will get to look back at and remember for the rest of your life. So here we go!

1. Wedding Planner

A wedding planner is the brains of the whole operation. They are the ones that keep the entire show going, making sure everyone is getting ready at the appropriate times and ensuring that everyone else is where they need to be able to get their job done. Sure, your wedding day might be fine without them, but having a solid wedding planner is key to making sure you get to enjoy your wedding day without having to worry about a thing. They will take on all the hard work while you get to dance with your friends.

They’re also perfect for people like us videographers because we get to coordinate with them to make sure we can do the best job we can, whether that’s setting up for the next thing or a point of reference for scheduling for the day. So they are our best friends on the wedding day.

2. A Venue

The venue is the setting of your day. It’s going to bring in the characteristics of how you remember the day. You can either choose something out in the middle of the woods, an elegant hotel, or even in your mother’s backyard (which, I’ve been to some fancy houses, so that’s an option). The one thing you’ll want to make sure of is that it helps elevate your story and who you are as a couple. If you’re an elegant couple, don’t get married in a dingy place. If you’re city people,

choose a venue that’s downtown. If you’re country folk, choose the best barn in the area. You want to be able to choose a place that has a lot of character.

This helps us as videographers because we can use the venue to shape the setting of your video, getting shots of the building, the ceremony area, and the reception area. It helps put the pieces together to create a lovely film for you.

3. A Wedding DJ/Band

The Wedding DJ/ Band is the heart and soul of the wedding day. They not only play some good tunes, but they are the ones that keep everyone

entertained, making sure your guests don’t leave early. They keep the energy pumping and moving, and they work to get everyone on the dance floor. Their job is a lot harder than it looks! You deserve to get someone full of energy, able to keep you and your guests happy, and keep the party bumping!

They are essential for wedding videographers because we can hook up to their system for quality audio. We can coordinate with them and the wedding planner, and they help us by getting people on the dance floor for good party footage. You get someone who is mediocre, there’s a good chance it can even bring down the quality of the film, so if you want to get a good videographer, you’ll want to make sure you get a great DJ that knows what they’re doing!

4. Photographer

Photographers are some of the best people in the whole industry. They are also typically our best friends because we work so closely together. They are the ones that can best capture those candid shots; delightful moments and pictures will be the things that you keep in your wedding book and on your house walls for the rest of your life. They will be the things you look back on to remind yourselves of why you fell in love in the first place and remember how fabulous your day was.

Like I said above, photographers are the videographer’s best friends. So we often work shoulder to shoulder with them, and we often coordinate with

them the most. So we want to make sure we aren’t getting in each other’s shots, working together during your photo session times, making sure we’re both getting some beautiful images and the people we are with from the first hour to the last.

Make sure you get a good photographer and works well with others - especially with videographers. Because at the end of the day, lousy

coordination could lead to either bad photos or awful video. So really be sure of the people you want to hire.

5. Videographer

Last but certainly not least is the wedding videographer. I might be a little biased because I am a wedding videographer, but I would say we are a significant part of the day. What separates us from photographers is that we are also getting movement and sound. You’ll get to hear your vows over again, relive what your favorite person said during the toasts, and recreate that emotion you felt on your wedding day.

We also create a product that you’ll want to watch for a lifetime. We can get creative, use slow-mo, build sequences with music attached, and use our vows

and toasts to recreate the emotion in the trailer film. We are there to recreate the whole day, film things that you may have missed or didn’t notice on the day, get shots of your grandfather dancing - we get it all. We work to make the film as unique as you are as a couple.
